Regional Projects

Article III (e) of the GFCM Agreement specifies that the Commission should “encourage, recommend, coordinate and, as appropriate, undertake research and development activities, including cooperative projects in the areas of fisheries and the protection of living marine resources”. In this context and in compliance with Article X, to establish trust funds for any contributions received for the execution of cooperative projects or specific projects, the following projects have been formulated and operated following the sub-regional implementation strategy assumed by the Commission:

	ADRIAMED (Adriatic)
	AdriaMed "Scientific Cooperation to Support Responsible Fisheries in the Adriatic Sea" is an FAO Regional Project and it is funded by the Italian Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry Policies (MiPAAF). [more...]
	COPEMED (Western and Central Mediterranean)
	Advice, Technical Support and Establishment of Cooperation Networks to Facilitate Coordination to Support Fisheries Management in the Western and Central Mediterranean. [more...]
	MEDSUDMED (Central Mediterranean)
	MedSudMed "Assessment and Monitoring of the Fishery Resources and the Ecosystems in the Straits of Sicily" is a regional project with four participating countries (Italy, Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, Malta and Tunisia), executed by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and funded by the Italian Ministry of Agriculture Food and Forestry Policies (MiPAAF). Other similar projects in the pipeline are COPEMED II and EASTMED (Eastern Mediterranean), together with a number of specific projects in the field of aquaculture, including the completion of the revitalization programme for SIPAM (Information System for the Promotion of Aquaculture in the Mediterranean countries).
